I bet you think you should not make lives with few followers

First of all, what is a LIVE?

To answer that let’s start with what streaming is. Streaming is the method of data transmission used when someone watches video on the Internet. Live streaming is when the streamed video is sent over the Internet in real time.

Today, TV broadcasts, video game streams, and social media video can all be live-streamed. And so we usually call LIVE streaming as simply LIVE.

If the video was recorded, stored and then distributed, this is not LIVE, it is just a streaming video being transmitted.

Instagram Live is a feature on Instagram Stories that allows users to stream video to followers and engage with them in real time. When users broadcast live video streams on their accounts, a ring highlights their profile picture in Instagram Stories to alert followers that they can view the live stream.

The Instagram LIVE can have currently up to 1h duration.

You can also give a LIVE from Facebook for up to 8h long if you’re recording on desktop or 4h long on mobile.

Another option too is to stream LIVE from YouTube with duration up to 12h.

But these time duration can change as time passes.

Now our LIVE topic says “WHAT’S THE POINT OF DOING A LIVE WITHOUT AN AUDIENCE?” So, if you don’t have an audience just yet, then giving LIVEs on your social media is a way to turn this around! You should give a LIVE if you don’t have an audience and not the other way around! The interaction on social media Live is what pulls people in and interests them in learning more about your services. It will give you more visibility, it can help you to expand your coaching reach, especially on Instagram, since lives are placed in front of regular stories and so it gets more visibility.

For example I am building my audience here on my social media, and it is impressive how many more people come to watch me, then after that they send me feedback, questions and we start to build a relationship. Such things are hard to tell unless we try it ourselves.

Also regarding Instagram features, if you don’t have many followers, you can interview, or do a Co-Live with any partner of yours, and so once you start the LIVE and invite that person, all the followers from that person will be notified and so you will reach more people. This is a very good strategy too, for visibility, diversity and shortening the relationship with our partners and even clients, since we can also interview our clients.

Also it would be a little pointless to start a LIVE with a random subject, so people, your audience would not be interested.

We have to try to cover subjects which will add value to our audience, it is your time to show your expertise, for example, to talk about a specific exercise, to talk about best practices on a running race. Think about something that would help your audience. It also helps to write a script before the LIVE at least with the main ideas which will help you to go through it. And it is ok, you can look at the script during the LIVE, there is no problem at all.

Did you know that around 70% of Instagram posts, don’t even get seen by the organic distribution? That’s a lot of wasted effort, especially since you’re investing money into your strategy. Stories help combat this issue by placing your content at the top of your followers feeds, but Instagram Live takes it a step further. When you go live on Instagram, your stream shows up in the same place as a story, only Instagram Live has a few special privileges.

Instagram Live streams are placed at the front of the storytelling, which gives you a pretty solid chance of getting views. Instagram Live streams are also highlighted, which increases interest and draw to watch. Finally, Instagram Live is push notification enabled. This means that any follower with the feature turned on will be alerted each time you start a live stream.

This significantly increases awareness and develops your potential for reach.

Urgency, There’s a lot of evidence that people not only enjoy live content, they actually have trouble turning away. Because live content creates a sense of urgency.

This real-time, collective experience also makes live events more sticky than average content. Viewers will end up watching live content for longer for the simple fact that if they turn away, they might miss out on something important, something that everyone else saw. As a result, they become invested in what happens next. They care.

Authenticity – Another reason people tend to love live content is that it’s authentic. You don’t know what will happen next, but neither do the people hosting the live stream.

Instagram Live breaks down the barrier between you and your audience. It gives you an opportunity to have a real conversation and interact in real-time. It creates a face-to-face experience that feels personal and genuine. Genuine means trustworthy, and trustworthy is a great thing.

Authenticity is extremely important since there’s evidence that it directly affects revenue. A study by Sprout Social found that consumers value business transparency, a lot. So much so that brands who lack transparency on social media cause 86% of consumers to turn to a competitor.
And… Engagement, Lives opens potential possibility for conversation. You can ask viewers questions, give a behind the scenes look into your business, let viewers direct the action of the stream… you name it. Most importantly, it’s a two-way interaction. You can respond to your audience because it’s happening in real-time.

Now a very important thing for LIVEs is to have a continuous LIVE, like a TV show, which has date and time! This way our audience will start to have the habit to come to our LIVE on their own, since we have been there week after week after week. And eventually our audience will remember that it is Saturday, Flavia will be LIVE at 8am, so they will show up on their own!

Also along the week, it helps a lot to send some reminders on your stories about when is your next LIVE so your audience gets ready for it. And even a post a couple of days before, with the date, time and topic, for example.
